You know how I love the “both-and”! When we create assignments, we are creating structures, like the bins, where ideas can come together. When we give students comments during the process we are in the same role that the writing fellows are–pitch forks letting in the necessary oxygen that allows for more (de)composition to happen. I use this hand out with both writing fellows and fellow teachers. But now that I think about it, teachers have one more step: we have to provide a grade. Wonder where that fits in the metaphor?
